Suspended from a walnut frame by 24-karat yellow gold plated bead cord. The artist has often considered that the ancient chinese might have placed cicadas, carved from nephrite jade, into the mouths
of their dead. Having observed the insects burrowing into the ground and emerging 13, 15, or 17 years later. Actually, I think it was the the offspring which emerged. 14.1 centimeters high, base to top of the “Chinese doorway”. The cicada itself measures about 4 centimeters in height.
